Which player has impressed me the most in the Premier League this season

My stand out player to date in my view has been James Rodriguez of Everton FC.  He has taken to the Premier League "like a duck to water". The 29-year-old Columbia attacking midfielder was signed in the offseason from Spanish giants Real Madrid for a fee believed to be around 20 million pounds.  He signed on a two-year contract for the Toffees. In the opening four games of the season James has scored three goals and assisted two and in general, has been at the hub of everything that Everton have done well in the attacking third of the pitch.  A huge factor getting James to the Premier League was the fact that his old manager who he played under at Real Madrid is the current Everton gaffer.  Italian Carlo Ancelotti is the man in question that attracted the flamboyant winger to the Premier League.  They had a very good relationship at Real Madrid and they wanted to rekindle that at Everton. James has formed a frightening partnership with Everton duo Rich...

Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo. Who is the better footballer?

This is a question asked by fans all over the globe.  You will have your Messi and Ronaldo lovers in every part of the world we live in today.  But just who is the better player?

You'll have your biased Barcelona and Juventus fans of course staking their claim to the reasons why Messi is better than Ronaldo or that Ronaldo is better than Messi.  This debate will rage on until the day we leave this earth.

I am of the opinion that both players are so difficult to separate but if I was to choose, I would pick Messi just purely on the fact I think he is more of a team player than Ronaldo for ninety minutes.

The statistics when comparing the two players are remarkable.  Let's compare.  Please remember Messi is 32 and Ronaldo is 35.

In Messi's career to date he has played 856 games, scoring 697 goals and assisting 289 times.  That's an average of 1.22 goals a game.

In Ronaldo's career to date he has played 1000 games, scoring 725 times and assisting 220 times.   That's an average of 1.37 goals a game.

Lionel Messi

Messi grew up in a small Argentinian town called Rosario and his footballing talents were for all to see at just six years old when he signed for Newell's Old Boys where he scored almost 500 goals in their youth team.  However at 10 years old Messi was diagnosed with growth hormone deficiency.  A growth problem that makes you not grow as tall as your peers.  As a result his father spent a fortune on providing his son with growth hormone treatment to make him grow.

He moved to Barcelona when he was just fourteen and then made his first-team debut just over two years later when he came on as a substitute in a friendly game against Porto.  A year later aged seventeen he became a regular in the starting eleven.  The rest is history.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo grew up in the Portuguese town of Santo Antonio when aged 12 he went for trail for Sporting CP and as a result he signed on schoolboy terms.  At eighteen years old he was promoted into the first team and in 2002 he made his first-team debut against Moreirense scoring twice in a 3-0 win.

Manchester United came after his signature and just one year later he signed for the Premier League giants for a record fee for a transfer of a teenager (at the time) of 12.24 million pounds.  He was a key player for them for the 6 years he wore their colors.  Real Madrid signed him in 2009 for a transfer record fee of 80 million pounds and the spotlight was shone on him throughout his time at the Bernabeu.  He stayed at Real for nine years and was a roaring success, scoring a crazy 450 goals in 438 games.  He then opted to sign for Italian giants Juventus to finish up his career.  He is now into his second year of a four-year contract at the club.

My thoughts on the most disappointing team in the Premier League to date

As we enter the international break for the first time this campaign and with the summer transfer window slammed shut , we are beginning to see a pattern form in the Premier League of what teams will be successful and what teams will not be. I will get the ball rolling by saying that the most disappointing team to date in the Premier League has been Sheffield United.  The Blades as they are known got promoted to the big time in the 2018/2019 season and endured a fantastic first season in the Premier League securing a ninth-place finish. They currently sit in 19th place in the league with zero points and with a -5 goal difference.  The only team below them are Fulham who also have zero points but have a -8 goal difference.  Last season they were a breath of fresh air to the Premier League with their steely organization and endeavor a shining light in the division.  They were gaining plaudits up and down the country.    However, this campaign has ...

The most shocking result since the Premier League began?

Villa Park witnessed one of the most dominant displays of football from an Aston Villa outfit that has started the season brilliantly.  The scoreline was one everyone could have never had predicted.  Aston Villa 7 (seven) Liverpool 2. Liverpool are the current Premier League champions and have started the season in fine fashion , winning their opening three fixtures against Leeds United, Chelsea, and Arsenal.  In fairness, the Reds were missing their talisman in Sadio Mane.  He, unfortunately, has the coronavirus, so he will be absent for two weeks from the squad.  They were then dealt a further blow with Brazilian goalkeeper Allison suffered a shoulder injury in training.  The game started at a blistering pace with the hosts on the front foot from the first whistle.   They started the rout after only four minutes through new summer recruit from Brentford, Ollie Watkins.  The striker then doubled the Villains lead on 22 minutes...
